And later when you use the app store, the music application, the apple TV application, or any other place that requires you to sign in to an apple ID, which are things we'll talk about in this course, then you will have that account.Your email address is incredibly valuable to websites, marketing services, apps and other third parties. And in the future, your apple ID will be signed in here in system preferences. So choose whether you want to use an existing email address, or if you want a new iCloud email address, then of course you'll need to set your password, click next and go through the rest of the process to create your account. And you'll use that iCloud email address whenever you sign into iCloud or your apple ID. Then you'll just provide the first part of the address here and the rest, the is already set. And if you want an iCloud email address, you need to do this.

Instead, you're setting up a new email address, which is one of the free services in iCloud. Then you don't have to provide an existing email account. You can click where it says, get a free iCloud email address. You can provide an email address that you already have if you prefer, then you'll use that email address every time you sign into your apple ID account. You get an option here that you do not get if you set up your apple ID on that webpage. And then you get to the step where you need to provide an email address. And then naturally you'll put in your first name and your last name. So first I'll just plug in a birth date here, then click next. Now, I'm just going to go through the first few steps here so you can see the important thing that I wanted to talk about. And from here, the steps are the same if you're in either of the two scenarios that I just showed. And if you don't have an account yet, which is what we're talking about here, you can click this option to create an apple ID. If you are not already signed into an account, you can click the sign in button here. But from here, your apple ID options are up here at the top. I'll introduce system preferences later in this course, and really explain what it's all about. To do that, we'll go to the system menu by clicking the apple logo in the top left corner, then go to system preferences. And macOS at any time you can go to system preferences.

What if you have already gone through the first time setup of your Mac computer, and you skip this apple ID set up at that time. But let's pause here and go to another scenario for setting up a new account. You can click on that and follow the prompts to go through the setup process. If you don't want to set up an account, you can just click down here at the bottom where it says, "set up later." But if you do want to set up a new account, there's an option right here to create a new apple ID. If you already have an account, you can just put in the email address for that account and sign in. It's prompting me to sign into my apple ID account. During one step of that process, you will see a screen like this. One place you may encounter this is when you set up a new computer for the first time.

Let's see two options for how to do that. So I think it's better to set up your new account in the settings in macOS itself. If you set up your account on the web, it's possible that you could miss out on one of the core features of the iCloud service, the feature where you get a free email account. There's an option up at the top to create your apple ID, but I want to caution you. Now you could go to the apple ID website and create your account here. Remember it is possible to set up two separate accounts, but I strongly encourage new users to set up one account that will be used for both apple ID and iCloud. If you've decided to set up an apple ID or iCloud account, this video will show you how to do it.
